Canine Complement 3 (C3) deficiency is a metabolic disorder in the Brittany Spaniel that leaves affected dogs vulnerable to infections. The disorder is caused by a recessive mutation to the C3 gene.
Caractéristiques cliniques
Affected dogs are vulnerable to to various kidney and urinary tract diseases. Particularly when young, they are likely to experience recurrent bacterial infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections and uterine tract infections. They are also more prone to Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis (MPGN), which can cause kidney damage and kidney failure.
