Gallbladder mucoceles (GBM) are buildups of thickened mucus and/or bile in the gallbladder, which can result in gallbladder rupture, infection and other complications. It is caused by a defective ABCB4 gene found mainly in Shetland Sheepdogs.
Caractéristiques cliniques
Gall bladder mucocele is characterised by formation of cysts in the gall bladder. This causes hepatobiliary disease which has been recognized with increased frequency during the past several years.

Il existe également des études publiées dans lesquelles aucune association statistiquement significative n’a pu être trouvée entre la gen ABCB4 et les mucoceles de la vésicule biliaire.
