Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is an autosomal recessive disorder that causes blindness. This is due to a mutation in the ADAMTS10 protein that can lead to increased pressure in the eye, leading to nerve damage, lens subluxation and vision loss. This variant is found in the Beagle.
Caractéristiques cliniques
POAG is usually diagnosed, when the dog start to experience more significant vision impairment. Earlier signs can include the formation of cataracts, impaired vision and increased pressure inside the eye, which can be measured at the veterinary clinic.
