Myeloperoxidase Deficiency (MPOD) is a disorder affecting white blood cells, observed in the Italian Hound (e.g. Italian Greyhound, Segugio Italiano). It is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene MPO.
Caractéristiques cliniques
Myeloperoxidase Deficiency is primarily evident in blood analysis such as complete blood count perox. Affected white blood cells, normally stained as MPO-positive, will not be stained and cluster align in the unstained cell area.
The disorder itself is believed to lead to lead to an increased vulnerability to infections.
