Informations générales

Factor XI (FXI) Deficiency is a disorder that affects blood clotting, which can lead to abnormal, excessive bleeding. The disease is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene F11, and is found in the Maine Coon.

Caractéristiques cliniques

Signs of Factor XI Deficiency can include easy bruising, bleeding from the gums, hematomas, and excessive bleeding after injury or surgery.

The severity of the disorder's symptoms can be highly variable., and some affected cats may not show any symptoms at all. As such, the mutation should be seen as causing a risk of abnormal bleeding, rather than a guarantee.
